- Be able to watch Japanese anime without subtitles.
- Be able to have simple daily conversations with native speakers so that I will be able to travel in Japan myself.
Reflection:
- 1/10: Unfortunately, so far I am still not able to watch anime without subtitles. It will probably take me one to two more years to achieve this goal.
- 2/10: I think now I have known the absolute minimum amount of Japanese for me to travel in cities like Tokyo in Japan.
Short-term Goals:
- To improve my word pitch for long sentences.
- To improve my Japanese rhythm, especially on double consonants.
- To correctly distinguish between voiced and voiceless consonants.
Reflection:
- 7/10: I still often had a hard time to have my word pitch correct for long sentences during my shadowing exercises.
- 9/10: I think my rhythm has improved quite a bit over the semester.
- 5/10: I still find myself sometimes confused by the pronunciation of voiced and voiceless consonants in the speech, particularly for sentences or words that I am not familiar with.
Activities:
- Go to Japanese table once per two weeks.
- Watch one episode of Japanese anime everyday.
- Do shadowing exercises 5 minutes everyday.
- Go to office hour once per two weeks.
Reflection:
- 7/10: Have been to Japanese table about 3 or 4 times in total this semester. I shall definitely try to go more often during the next semester.
- 100/10: Have finished watching 機動戦士ガンダム00 and 機動戦士Ζガンダム. In addition, I have also been watching 世にも奇妙な物語 and 古畑任三郎. Both are very interesting dramas. I have also watched るろうに剣心の映画.
- 1/10: I was not motivated enough to do extra shadowing exercises apart from the assigned homework. I think I should try at least to do a little bit shadowing when watching the anime or drama next semester.
- 1/10: I only went to office hour once besides the required ones. Should definitely go to office hours more often, specifically to practice my speech with 柴田先生.
